    The UMCSCE Social Responsibility

The Udzungwa Mountains College Students Club of Entrepreneurship (UMCSCE) has a deep sense of social responsibility about giving something back to the community. Through the Udzungwa Mountains College Trust Foundation (UMCTF), funds have so far provided education for nearly over 10,000 orphans with access to free education at our college as well as vulnerable childcare and students sponsorship and support at large. Udzungwa Mountains College Students Club of Entrepreneurship (UMCSCE) is also empowering local populations by giving them chance to be entrepreneurs by running their own businesses. Our support and assistance have been built around the power of poor people and communities.

    STUDENT SPONSORSHIP AND SUPPORT

The goal of the Educational Support Initiative is to allow every child to reach their maximum potential, regardless of the financial, social, and health obstacles that might be present. A parent’s inability to pay school fees or purchase a new uniform is enough to keep a vulnerable child out of school. Udzungwa Mountains College Students Club of Entrepreneurship (UMCSCE) through Udzungwa Mountains College Trust Foundation (UMCTF) has financially supported the educational opportunities of over 100 orphaned and vulnerable children, which includes paying school fees and providing uniforms, school supplies, and transport to/from school. 50 children have reached and/or completed their secondary education and over 100 children have reached and/or completed their primary education through UMCTF financial intervention and support in association shoulder on shoulder with Udzungwa Mountains College Students Club of Entrepreneurship (UMCSCE). 5 Previously vulnerable children have reached and/or completed their university education through participation in the work-study program (WSP) where students are able to pay for school fees through working in different sectors of the UMCTF. Fifteen children have continued to find work with the NGO or in another Career field, helping to provide income for themselves, their families, and the greater community. Nearly 80 children have been educated in the onsite Preschool and Kindergarten classrooms. KINDERGARTEN OUTREACH PROGRAM

Because local Kindergarten teachers lack training and resources, they are rendered ineffectual by their difficult teaching environment, resulting in low quality or non – existent. UMCTF in association with Udzungwa Mountains College Students Club of Entrepreneurship (UMCSCE) created an outreach program in 2015 to support existing Kindergarten / Preschool classrooms and the establishment of new Kindergarten classrooms in the village through monthly training seminars, the provision of locally resourced classroom materials, and monitoring and evaluating visits to classrooms. The goal is to create long–term advocates of early childhood education within the community. This is combined with a rigorous training program for participating teachers and the creation of a feedback loop that supports teacher advocacy. UMCSCE invites the interested business community, business leaders, highly successful entrepreneurs, college student entrepreneurs, and many more others from across Tanzania and around the world to donate books or cash in hand.

This program under the supervision of Udzungwa Mountains College Trust Foundation (UMCTF) in association with Udzungwa Mountains College Students Club of Entrepreneurship (UMCSCE) oversees the purchase of both textbooks and storybooks of African origin for distribution to rural schools. The boxes are local aluminum boxes, which contain at least 55 books suitable for children from 6 – 12 years of age. Teachers also receive training on how to use the books within the government curriculum of the United Republic of Tanzania. To date, 30 million of Tanzanian Shilling has been put towards the purchase of these books and the work of this project.
